Portable Infrared Saunas

Portable infrared sauna

One of alternative to a classic wooden infrared sauna cabin is a portable folding infrared sauna (or hothouse as it sometimes called). It usually consists of a small tent made of some kind of fabric in which a person sits while taking a sauna. Infrared emitters are usually built-in in the tent walls and sometimes there is one on the floor for feet warming. There are holes for a head and arms with zippers. When taking this sauna one’s head and arms are out of the tent. In a typical tent a foldable chair is also supplied. A portable infrared sauna is an economical way for an individual to take advantage of the numerous health benefits of sauna treatments without the expense of constructing a permanent sauna room.

Ideal for smaller room of the house, these infrared portable saunas are used by people who benefit from their stress reducing heat therapy technology. These infrared saunas do more than just enhance the skin. They improve body circulation in muscles that can become stiff and unusable due to injuries, illnesses and arthritic joint pain that can home bound a once perfectly healthy person. These infrared portable saunas are often even prescribed to their patients by their medical doctors, and may be, under that clause, paid partly by some insurance companies.

Most portable saunas are built to accommodate only one person at a time. They have a control panel to adjust time and temperature. They plug into a standard wall outlet, which begins to heat up the super-thin carbon heating panels on the inside of the sauna. It may sound dangerous to have heating elements that close to the skin, but with infrared it’s perfectly safe. Infrared doesn’t heat up the surrounding air, so the panels are only warm to the touch. Infrared actually works best when the heating source is close to the body for a more even heat.

Some portable saunas come in the form of bags, blankets, or domes. You either lie down under a rigid plastic dome, or lie on top of the bag and fold it over you. Your head remains outside of the bag or dome. The advantages of this model are that it is extremely easy to store, and having the heat source so near your skin allows for maximum infrared absorption. The disadvantage of this model is that it doesn’t allow you to freely move your arms, and it means that you’ll be staring at the ceiling during sessions.

There are numerous benefits of using a infrared portable sauna on a regular basis. Radiant heat therapy helps encourage perspiration which ultimately clears the skin’s pores of dead cells and toxins. Because infrared heat helps to stimulate the body’s circulatory system, damaged tissues and muscles throughout the body are able to heal more quickly and pain from injuries lessens much more rapidly. Muscles which feel sore and fatigued are also aided by exposure to the radiant heat from a portable infrared sauna with many sauna users experiencing good results in loosening tight and overworked muscles after just one sauna session.
